7 Tips to Create the Perfect Facebook Ad for your Business

By Mark Finley, Social Media Strategist August 29, 2016

Do you want the truth about effective marketing on Facebook?  I’ll let you in on a not so subtle secret; ads are the new key to effectively pushing out your messages for consumers. The reality is that paid advertising on Facebook is now a must if you want to grow your audience and customer base.  With the current algorithms, this is the only guaranteed method to get your message to the people who need to see it most.  If you are new to ads or want to make the most of your money, here are some things to consider as you build your advertisement.

  1. Understand Facebook’s Audience Insights. You can’t set up an effective ad or campaign without first understanding your audience.  When you spend money on Facebook, you need to make sure you understand who your audience is and what they respond to best.  Thankfully, Facebook offers audience insights to help you determine these needs so you don’t go through the guessing game.  Here is an overview to help if you are not familiar with audience insights: http://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/facebook-audience-insights-for-marketers/

  2. Determine Your Goals. While this may seem like a simple step, it is highly important. Consider what your goals are as a business.  Do you just want more likes for your page or do you want to drive website traffic?  Perhaps you have another goal in mind. Your goals will determine the type of ad you want to create.

  3. Have a Powerhouse Design. Really effective ads are simple, clean and stand out in a crowd.  Don’t go overboard on the design or text.  The graphics are most important as you want to stand out on the Facebook feed.

  4. Always Brand. Branding is a basic key to marketing and it should not be forgotten on Facebook.  Always use your logo and verbiage that is consistent with other marketing materials you have. Make it look like your business so it is easily recognizable.

  5. Understand Targeting. When setting up a Facebook ad, you have the opportunity to target your audience very specifically.  Use this tool!  You can maximize the return on your ad by sending it to those who will be most likely to respond.  Need some help with this? https://instapage.com/blog/facebook-ad-targeting-tips-to-maximize-roi

  6. Create a Call-To-Action. This is a step that is often missed with Facebook ads.  You always want to include a very specific call-to-action (next step) that is easy and straight forward for your audience.  What do you want them to do?  Make sure it is clear.

  7. Test, Try, Learn, Repeat (TTLR).  This is my personal mantra with marketing. Every time you send out an ad, you will learn more about what works best on your page.  Take every ad as an opportunity to test out an idea and try new things.  Always learn from your ads and tweak for future campaigns.
